Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
As we enter October and the leaves begin to turn, my thoughts tend to turn toward the closing of the month. You know… that big day in Lutheran circles where we CELEBRATE the anniversary of another thing that begins with “RE…” It sort of follows along the lines of what the Apostle Paul is teaching in his letter to the Romans in chapter 12.
Thinking Differently… The difference between CONforming and TRANSforming needs to begin with REnewal of your mind. What you read, what you watch, what you discuss – all those things have a way impacting how you think. Individually or collectively, we need to be REformed constantly by the REnewing of our minds and how we live together as followers of Christ.
And so, this month, let’s take some time to lay out a plan and then take action to REnew our minds – to be transformed into the mind of Christ. Let’s encourage and be accountable to one another for a renewed focus on studying the WORD of God together.
A great way to do this is to come together in groups like our “Breakfast & Bibles” at Lamont Hill on Saturday mornings at 7:00 am, or our Adult Bible Study following Fellowship on Sunday mornings. This also could apply to your daily devotions at mealtime. Take a little time for a short devotion as you finish your meals together, and then close out with a word of Prayer – for each other. In so doing, we can begin to plan activities together – and then invite others to join you...
Doing things together, we will find that we can better “discern what is the will of God…” for our lives – as individuals, as a group, as a congregation – and move forward into a REFORMATION Celebration that is truly meaningful and has impact for this year and beyond.
May you be REFORMED and REnewed and RE:Vitalized in Christ,
Pastor Jim
